Flooding situation in Nausori worsens

The situation in Nausori has worsened in the last few hours as thousands of people have been affected by rising flood waters.

A resident of Koronivia, Nausori, Ajay Prasad said flood waters from Toga river has entered a number of houses and many farms are also underwater.

Prasad said 11 families are currently taking shelter at Nakaikogo Primary school.

Many people have also been affected by flood waters further down Koronivia road.

Our reporter Roneel Narayan from Lokia has told us that flood waters have surrounded their homes and access has been cut off for many people.

A number of villages in Toga have also been affected by flood waters.

Toga road is also inaccessible.

Looking at other areas in Nausori, our reporter from Lal Singh road in Waila Jai Prasad said some villagers from his area risked their lives and saved two cows from flood waters.

18 houses in Waila Feeder road have also been badly affected by flood waters.

A resident Avinesh Ram said they are just trying to save whatever they can.

Other areas in Nausori that are flooded include Corbett Avenue, Navuso, Jalim Avenue, Waila feeder road, Withrow road in Dilkusha and other nearby areas.

The advisory councillor for the Naitasiri district, Mahendra Prasad Chaudhry said hundreds of people in these areas are stuck in their houses.

He said the LDS Church in Navuso has been opened as an evacuation centre and people have started moving in.

Flood waters have entered three houses in Buiduna, Nausori.

Buiduna road, Vuci south road and Naduru road are also affected by flood waters.

Meanwhile, Naqali village in Naitasiri is flooded.

Our reporter on the ground Mala Qaqacava said Naqali bridge is also under water.
