Fishing in parts of the Nasilai waters in Nakelo, Tailevu will now be closely monitored by the relevant authorities.
This is after the Tui Nakelo restricted parts of his fishing ground yesterday for the next five years.
Speaking on behalf of the Tui Nakelo, his younger brother Ratu Timoci Namela said this is the first time this will be done in the district after his traditional fishermen from Nasilai village agreed to impose the taboo.
Ratu Timoci said this is done to ensure that the children of Nakelo will have enough for the future.
Ratu Timoci also warned the representatives from the villages in the Nakelo district to ensure they look out for each other.
The Nasilai villagers will now work closely with the Fisheries department and even the Navy in monitoring the restricted areas.
