Fish poisoning victims did not die because of negligence by medical staff - Akbar

The burial of the four villagers that died of fish poisoning in Qarani, Gau early last month.

It was clarified in parliament today that the four people that passed away because of fish poisoning in Qarani, Gau early last month did not die because negligence by medical staff.

Minister for Health and Medical Services Rosy Akbar told parliament the patients did not die because of negligence by medical staff or shortage of medicine.

She made this clarification after Opposition MP, Niko Nawaikula asked in parliament if the health centre at Qarani had the right medicine to deal with fish poisoning.

There were also questions and suggestions from the Opposition for the Ministry of Health to use traditional medicine but Akbar said they are not considering that option.

She said they are aware that most people in maritime communities are using tradition medicine but it is something the Ministry is not recommending.
