The Fiji Rugby Union has postponed the first leg of the Fiji Rugby Fun Flavor Super 7s Series and the Veiyasana Provider 7s Tournament, both planned to kick off this weekend.
FRU says the decision was taken after meeting with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Fiji National Sports Commission and based on the guidance from the Ministry of Health.
FRU Chief Executive John O’Connor says the main concern was the welfare and safety of everyone involved in view of the recent increase in new COVID-19 cases.
He says they will await new guidelines from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and Ministry of Youth and Sports before they confirm new tournament dates.
He also confirmed that all rugby events will be stood down for the time being until COVID-19 Return to play protocols are reviewed and new protocols are put in place to address the current situation.
Meanwhile, FRU also confirms that in view of these latest developments, the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s and the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s will now move into their respective bubbles as they prepare to depart for the Spain 7s next week.
