The first Fiji Women’s Parliament was today in session at Parliament House in Suva.
This programme was organised by the Parliament of Fiji and is aimed at helping women become aspiring leaders of society.
Fifty women of different backgrounds from around the country were part of the program.
Former USP Deputy Vice‑Chancellor Dr. Esther Williams was the Prime Minister while Lawyer and 2014 Election candidate Lynda Tabua was the Opposition Leader.
Debates focused on the Committee of the Whole on the Women’s Parliament Family Leave Bill 2016.
The bill directed the debate to issues surrounding family health, gender equality and the right for women to have more access to maternity leave.
Fiji Women’s Parliament Opposition Leader Lynda Tabuya says the program was an opportunity to further women empowerment in the country.
