Fire walking is a very important festival in Fiji according to Attorney General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
He says annual festivals help us connect with the God and it’s very important that we look after ourselves spiritually.
He highlighted this while speaking at the Sangam Mahamariamman Temple’s fire walking celebration in Vunivau, Labasa.
Sayed-Khaiyum says he was told the Sangam Mahamariamman Temple was established in the 1930s.
He also says rituals will help bind people and we must all celebrate together.
The Minister adds if relationships and family bonds are strong, the community will be strong.
Sayed-Khaiyum also told the people in Vunivau that a temple in Solovi, Nadi had been established over 100 years ago and the Howell Road Temple in Suva has been having fire walking for 95 years.
