Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Veena Bhatnagar says the 2021-2022 National Budget reflects care and compassion for the wellbeing of Fijians in every sense but Fijians will have to honour the efforts of the Government by getting vaccinated.
While speaking in support of the budget in Parliament today, Bhatnagar says currently, nothing seems more deadly than the Coronavirus and the only way to win the fight against COVID-19 is to get vaccinated.
She adds she is immensely proud that women are leading the battle against COVID-19 from the frontline and has thanked the Health Ministry’s Head of Health Protection, Doctor Aalisha Sahukhan, the Head of the Vaccination Taskforce, Doctor Rachel Devi and their team who are working under the exceptional leadership of the Permanent Secretary for Health, Doctor James Fong.
The Assistant Minister has also welcomed the Government’s initiative of distributing sanitary pads to young girls in school.
She says the Government's commitment to provide free sanitary pads in schools provides relief to female students from the stigma, anxiety, and discomfort associated with menstrual hygiene management, allowing them to focus on their studies, and most importantly, this move will ease the cost of living for families.
Bhatnagar also welcomed the Government’s initiative to give $150 per kidney dialysis treatment which will ease the financial burden and bring huge relief to many families.
