With thousands of Fijians celebrating Diwali tomorrow, people are being urged to keep their racial differences aside and live in unity.
These are the words of Treasurer of Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha Fiji Pandit Vigyan Sharma who says on a special festival like Diwali people should be in one accord regardless of race and religion.
Sharma says people should not let racial barriers come between them.
He says that Diwali is a time people should do away with the darkness within themselves and be a helping hand to their family, community and nation.
Sharma says a few months before Diwali, Hindus start cleaning, painting and renovating their homes.
He says Diwali is a 5 day festival, where the first day is Dhanteras where a clay light or diya is lit and it is kept alight for the whole 5 days till Diwali.
Sharma adds that another special element of Diwali is the unity and camaraderie that people have amongst their families and community.
