The Fijians Helping Fiji Cooperative Limited is undeterred by media reports that the American organization which has been working with the cooperative, was under investigation by the FBI late last year.
The cooperative was formed last year and gets $120 membership from interested people who can then sell their agricultural produce to the cooperative which is exported to the US.
Chairman of Fijians Helping Fiji Cooperative Limited Ratu Meli Vesikula says there is nothing sinister about their business and no one has been arrested after the FBI investigation.
Vesikula says many of their members here have already benefitted from the initiative as the cooperative has been buying cassava at $1 a kg and dalo at $3 a kilo from the villagers.
When questioned on the total revenue received by the cooperative, Vesikula said he cannot reveal those details.
He only said that they have 6,000 members in Fiji so far and the numbers continue to increase.
Vesikula says those who have paid their $120 are already getting their returns.
He says they have three lines of business. The first is the direct export to the US where they purchase and send agricultural produce to the US, the direct import of goods to Fiji from America which will be sold at cooperative stores in the villages and supermarkets that will be opened up later, and investments in stocks and shares in America.
There is no confirmation on when the imports from America will start and when the planned supermarkets will open.
