Fijiana 7s Paris Olympics squad member Meredani Qoro is not looking further for inspiration as she always admires her teammate Ana Maria Naimasi as one of her idols in rugby growing up.
The 20-year-old said when she started playing rugby, she always liked watching Naimasi play and she has always had this feeling that she wanted to be like Naimasi one day.
Qoro says being in the same team now with Naimasi, is definitely a dream come true and she is also still trying to come to terms with the fact that she has made it into the final squad for the Olympics.
The former St.Thomas High School student says that 4 years ago, she was still in high school when she watched the Fijiana 7s win a bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics 7s competition and it was from then on, that she decided to try out rugby.
Qoro says she is thankful for the opportunity to represent her country and she can not wait to share the field with her idol at the Olympics.
She says there have been a lot of challenges that she faced along the way but she did not want to give up on her dreams but kept pushing.
The Nadi woman says her preparations for the Olympics have been tough these past few weeks, but she is not giving up on her dream to represent her country on the Olympics stage.
Meanwhile, the Fijiana 7s will take on Canada at 3.30am on the 29th of this month, followed by their second match against China at 7am on the same day.
They will take on NZ at 2.30am on the 30th of this month.
The Women’s medal quarter final will kick off at 7am on the 30th of this month, the semi finals will begin at 1.30am on the 31st of this month with the final kicking off at 5.45am on the same day.
