The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side has finished 10th in the HSBC Cape Town 7s after falling short 14-12 to China in the 9th-place playoff tonight.

China took a 14-0 lead in the first half after they scored two converted tries through Dou Xinrong and Gao Xiaoyang in the 2nd and 6th minute respectively before Fiji replied with an unconverted try through Vika Nakacia after the halftime hooter sounded to trail 14-5 at the break.

It was a tight contest in the second half as Fiji held their ground in defence to prevent China from scoring any more points.

Nakacia scored a converted try in the 13th minute but it was not enough as China also held on to their defence after the fulltime siren sounded to claim the win.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Airway Fiji Men’s 7s side will take on France at 12.18 midnight tonight in the second semi final.

Spain will play South Africa in the Men’s first cup semi final at 11.56 tonight.
