It is a dream come true for Fijian models Bulou Buatoka Vuta, Mykaela Powell and Remi Naqali as they will walk the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia runway for the first time in history tomorrow.
Vuta who was just modeling for two years caught the eye of Fashion Week Ltd Managing Director, Ellen Whippy‑Knight as she was walking out of the USP Laucala Campus one day when Knight drove past and stopped to ask her if she would like to model.
She recalls that what actually happened was Ellen stopped her car in the middle of the traffic, struck by the girl’s beauty, to recruit her.
Vuta is a marine biology student at the University of the South Pacific who had asked for her parents for time off because she realized that her heart lies in modeling.
Vuta says she is blessed and honoured to be given this opportunity to represent our country internationally.
She also says that she is interested in following the footsteps of her mother and aunt to be a flight attendant.
Vuta, Mykaela Powell and Remi Naqali and Fiji born Australian Asena Rokotuiwai will be part of the 25 overseas models, featuring in the Pacific Resort Collections Show tomorrow.
The event will also be streamed live on the website of Vogue Magazine: vogue.com.au/mbfwalive
