The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who is in the country to participate in the second Summit of the Pacific Islands Development Forum was hosted a state lunch by the Fijian Government today.
During the state lunch, President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau welcomed his counterpart and first lady Ani Bambang Yudhoyono.
Nailatikau also highlighted the bilateral relationship between the two countries which started in 1974 and said that today marks the fortieth anniversary of the formalization of the relationship.
He also said that this auspicious occasion will not only be commemorated as the first ever state visit by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, but it will also be commemorated most importantly as a first for the Pacific.
Nailatikau said their relationship has been an upward spiral and that the strength of Fiji - Indonesia bilateral relations has much scope of expanding into triangular co-operation with other Pacific Small Island Developing States.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will chair the PIDF Governing Council meeting today.
