The Fijian Elections Office has conducted an assessment of its internal strengths and weaknesses which affects their current and potential performance.
This was done after last year’s general elections.
At the one year general election anniversary yesterday the Fijian Elections office released a strategic plan 2015 to 2019 report.
This includes some of their weaknesses like, compressed timeframe, inexperienced staff, spontaneous decisions and reactive planning, no asset management system, lack of quality assurance mechanisms, lack of standard operating procedures and lack of specialised electoral vendors.
Some strengths highlighted include, committed and professional staff, merit based recruitment, international donor support, electronic voter registration system, good tender and procurement process in place, strong financial management system in place, a visual hands on approach to training established IT system, innovative solutions for voters, and comprehensive voter awareness programming.
Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says the Fijian Elections Office has some strategic goals and objectives.
Saneem adds the Office has established the Fijian Electoral Education Centre to ensure that capacity building and training of staff and prospective staff is done at the highest standards.
