Winger Vinaya Habosi scored a length of the field try towards the end of the match as the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua edged the Rebels 28-26 in their first trial match for the Super Rugby Pacific competition in Melbourne tonight.
This is the team’s first high intensity clash against another Super Rugby side.
The Drua scored four converted tries.
Hooker Tevita Ikanivere opened the scoring in the first 90 seconds which was converted by flyhalf Baden Kerr.
The Rebels then scored a try of their own before Drua flanker Kitione Salawa extended the Drua’s lead with another try.
Forward Joseva Tamani also scored a try for the Drua.
The match was played in three thirds over 90 minutes.
The Drua will now turn their attention to their opening match of the season against the Waratahs at 8.45pm next Friday in the Super Rugby Pacific.
