The villages of Matawailevu, Savusavu and Nausori in Ra will have a reason to smile as the Fiji Red Cross together with the New Zealand Red Cross have adopted the reconstruction of Vunikavikaloa Arya School through the Adopt a School Programme.

Bainisoqosoqo and Vunikavikaloa settlements will also benefit from this.

Director General of Fiji Red Cross Filipe Nainoca says they are grateful to the New Zealand Red Cross for helping build a safe and resilient school and community for the students, teachers, community and for the future generation.

Nainoca adds that the Fiji Red Cross has also conducted the pre-cyclone briefings, integrated vulnerability capacity assessment and first aid training in these communities.

Community member, Vasiti Adi Turaga says that they are grateful and fortunate for the help and training provided, as now her grandchildren will be able to go back to school with good classroom conditions.

NZ Red Cross Recovery Coordinator Holly Griffin says they are happy to be part of this safe school project and to help strengthen the community.
