To effectively combat human trafficking, Fiji will need the assistance and support of non-government organisations, civil societies, development and technical partners.
This was highlighted by the Permanent Secretary for Defence and National Security Manasa Lesuma while launching the National Anti-Human Trafficking Strategy and Action Plan at the Grand Pacific Hotel.
Lesuma says the launch demonstrates Fiji’s determination to combat and eliminate human trafficking in the country.
He says only when these strategies are implemented correctly, we will ensure that victims of trafficking are protected and the perpetrators and criminal networks are disrupted, prosecuted and appropriately penalized.
He adds the continuing impacts of COVID-19 has only intensified the threats and prevalence of Human Trafficking across the world, the region and also in Fiji.
The Permanent Secretary says this strategy document and plan provides cohesive and futuristic strategies that will no doubt go a long way in enhancing Fiji’s capacities and capabilities in combatting this transnational crime.
