Fiji uses over $400 million annually on Non‑Communicable Diseases related treatments.
This was highlighted by the President Jioji Konrote at the 2018 Bula Fiji Interhash event held in Nadi.
Konrote says a quick search on the world's health statistics reveal that Fiji now has one of the highest rate of NCD‑related deaths per capita in the world.
He says through NCDs like diabetes, we lose a limb every eight hours and this is such an alarming situation.
Konrote says NCDs are a present and clear danger to Fiji and they are a scourge and a threat to the people, not only here in Fiji, but also around the Pacific.
The President call on all leaders in society including parents and young people to join him and the national leaders in the campaign to reduce NCDs in the country.
