The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s side survived a late comeback from Ireland 29-24 in their quarter final match at the Dubai 7s.
Fiji started strong in the first half scoring five tries to lead 29-0 at the break.
Terio Tamani scored twice while Pilipo Bukayaro, Filipe Sauturaga and Kaminieli Rasaku scored a try each.
Ireland did not complete even one pass for 7 and a half minutes.
Ireland came back firing in the second half with tries to Zac Ward, Terry Kennedy and Jordan Conroy to close the gap to a 29-17 game.
Harry McNulty crossed over with just a minute left but Ireland made the mistake during their kick-off where they did not go the desired length.
Fiji will take on South Africa in the first semi final at 10.04 tonight, and New Zealand will meet Argentina in the second semi final at 10.26 tonight.
The final will be held at 3.53am tomorrow.
Looking at the results of the quarter finals, South Africa beat Australia 24-7, New Zealand thrashed the USA 40-0, and Argentina beat Samoa 21-14.
