The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team will face Canada in the 9th place semi final of the second leg of the Dubai 7s after losing two pool matches and finishing last in their group.
Fiji lost to France 22-17 in their first pool match before going down to Spain 33-14.
Spain had never beaten Fiji at this level before.
Fiji bounced back to thrash Argentina 40-7 in their last pool match this morning but it was not enough for them to qualify for the cup quarters.
Waisea Nacuqu scored a hat-rick in the convincing win while captain Josua Vakurunabili, Kaminieli Rasaku and Elia Canakaivata scored a try each.
Fiji will take on Canada at 5.44pm today.
In other results this morning, France beat Spain 33-14, Kenya beat Canada 26-14, Australia defeated USA 22-19, Ireland thrashed Japan 41-0 while South Africa beat Great Britain 21-7.
The men's cup quarter-finals starts at 5:44pm where Australia will play Ireland, Argentina will play Great Britain, USA will take on France while South Africa will play Kenya.
The semis are at 10:24pm while the cup final will kick-off at 3:26am tomorrow.

This is their second pool game defeat.
Spain outscored Fiji five tries to three to secure their first win against Fiji.
Waisea Nacuqu and Joseva Talacolo scored a try each in the first half with Nacuqu getting another try in the second half.
Defence was a major issue for Fiji.
Spain was a threat with every touch of the ball.
Fiji had lost their first pool game to France 17-22.
Fiji's final pool match against Argentina is at 1:24am tomorrow.

The Fiji Airways men’s national 7s team lost their first pool game to France 22-17 in the second Dubai 7s tournament this afternoon.
France took the lead early in the first half before Fiji replied with two tries to Joseva Talacolo and Filipe Sauturaga.
France veteran Joachim Trouabal gave his side a 12-10 lead with a try at the stroke of halftime
Captain Josua Vakurunabili scored a try early in the second half for Fiji before France closed the game with two unanswered tries.
Fiji was starved of possession and territory in the second half.
Fiji will now take on Spain at 9:14 tonight and then play Argentina at 1.24am tomorrow in their last pool game.

Australia beat Canada 21-14 while Argentina drew level with Spain 14-14.
