Former Fiji Bati and Australian Kangaroo Petero Civoniceva has told Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama that they are very close to achieving their aim to have a Fijian rugby league team based in Fiji play in the competition in NSW.
The bid is being led by Civoniceva, who is also an ambassador for the National Rugby League.
Bainimarama thanked Civoniceva for his efforts in trying to promote rugby league in Fiji and highlighted the positive outcomes it would have on rugby league players based in Fiji.
Civoniceva also thanked the Prime Minister for meeting him and informed him of the status of the bid.
The former rugby league star says the Prime Minister was very eager to know the status of the bid.
Civoniceva also congratulated the Prime Minister on Fiji's ability to secure a team in the National Rugby Competition from next year.
The New South Wales Cup is the second tier competition to the National Rugby League in Australia.
Meanwhile Bainimarama will arrive in New Zealand tonight.
He will speak at a Fiji Trade and Investment Symposium tomorrow morning before meeting NZ Foreign Minister Murray McCully.
Bainimarama will also attend a NZ Fiji Business Council hosted dinner tomorrow night.
He will also meet NZ Prime Minister John Key and Opposition Leader Andrew Little.
Bainimarama has also confirmed that he will attend the All Blacks
vs Wallabies Bledisloe test at Eden Park after the invitation by John Key.
He will be met by Key and other cabinet ministers before the game which kicks off at 6.35pm this Saturday.
