The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team lost to New Zealand 28-21 in the LA 7s Cup final, and finished third on the HSBC World 7s Series table with 122 points.
Fiji was up on the scoreboard first with a try to Kaminieli Rasaku and Waisea Nacuqu.
New Zealand came back to level the score in the first half with a penalty try and a try to Regan Ware.
Both sides were locked 14-all at half-time.
Fiji’s third try was scored by Filipe Sauturaga before New Zealand capitalized and went on to score their tries through Tone Ng Shiu and Moses Leo.
Meanwhile, Australia created history after winning the HSBC World Sevens Series for the first time after defeating Samoa 21-7 in the Bronze Medal final. They had 126 points.
The only teams that have won the World Sevens Series are New Zealand, Fiji, England, South Africa and Samoa.
Meanwhile Fiji will now head to Cape Town to prepare for the Rugby Sevens World Cup that will be held from the 9th to the 11th of next month.
