Fiji is leading other Pacific Island countries in terms of inter-regional exports accounting for 96%.
While addressing the launch of the Trade Statistics Report of 2010-2014, European Union Ambassador for the Pacific Andrew Jacobs says Fiji is the only Pacific Island nation that exported in significant quantities.
The report was produced by the EU-funded Increasing Agricultural Commodity Trade (IACT) project which is implemented by the Pacific Community.
Jacob says the Report also shows that Fiji, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands share close to 90% of total revenue earned by the Pacific Islands region.
The report also showed that Fiji’s top five merchandise exports for 2014 were fuel, fish, beverages, sugar and electrical items.
While Fiji’s top five total merchandise export markets in 2014 were United States of America, Australia, the United Kingdom, Japan and China.
