Papua New Guinea's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Rimbink Pato said the Government of Fiji, through its Fijian High Commission in Port Moresby in a letter dated 2nd October, stated that the Fiji Government respects the decision of the Pacific Islands Forum appointing Dame Meg Taylor to the position of Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum.
According to PACNEWS, the letter also states that Fiji looks forward to welcoming her in Suva next month.
Pato met with Fiji’s Foreign Minister, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola at the margins of the United Nations General Assembly Meetings in New York last week and discussed and concluded agreement on amongst other things, on him accompanying Dame Taylor to Fiji to take up her post as Secretary General.
Pato said Fijian Foreign Affairs Minister expressed clearly that there are no issues at all with respect to Dame Meg Taylor’s appointment and her taking up residency in Suva.
Fiji’s High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea, Romanu Tikotikoca and Ratu Inoke Kubuabola have said that the people and Government of Papua New Guinea have shown unwavering support and guidance during Fiji’s recent political history and contributed immensely towards Fiji’s return to democratic governance.
They say the Government of Fiji remains grateful and values the continuing good relations between the two countries.
