Fiji today commemorated Remembrance Day in honour of the souls lost during the World Wars.
It started with a march from the Flea Market to Ratu Sukuna Park and ended with a wreath-laying ceremony at the National War Memorial in Veiuto.
President Jioji Konrote, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, Leader of Opposition Sitiveni Rabuka, Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu and other members of government and Opposition in parliament were present at the wreath-laying ceremony.
Also in attendance were the US Ambassador to Fiji Joseph Cella, New Zealand Ambassador Jonathan Curr and Australia’s Ambassador to Fiji John Feakes and other diplomats.
Speaking to fijivillage after the wreath-laying ceremony, Minister for Defence Inia Seruiratu says November 11th is also a special day as we remember those that sacrificed their lives during the first and second world wars, the Malayan campaign and peacekeeping duties.
National Federation Party President Pio Tikoduadua says this is a celebration of those that gave their lives so we can enjoy our future.
