The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team has finished in fourth place at the Cape Town 7s after losing to France 29-24 in the bronze place playoff this morning.
The match went into sudden death and Fiji-born French player, Tavite Veredamu scored the final try to seal the win for France.
France led 17-5 at half time with Jerry Tuwai scoring Fiji’s only try in the first half.
Sevuloni Mocenacagi scored a double in the second half while
Kavekini Tabu also crossed over for a try.
Pierre Mignot scored twice for France while Jean-Pascal Barraque and Antoine Zaghdar scored a try each.
There continues to be major concerns about discipline in the Fiji 7s team as they got another six yellow cards in the Cape Town 7s.
Captain, Paula Dranisinukula received two yellow cards.
He got one in their first match against USA and another against New Zealand in the semifinal.
Other players that received yellow cards are Isoa Tabu, Meli Derenalagi, Vilimoni Botitu and Waisea Nacuqu.
Fiji has received 12 yellow cards in just 10 games.
Fiji is in 6th place with 23 points in the HSBC World 7s Series standings.
In other results, Japan defeated Wales 19-7 in the 15th place playoff, Samoa thrashed Spain 38-7 in the 13th place playoff, Australia lost to Canada 22-5 in the 11th place playoff and USA defeated England 17-12 in the 9th place playoff.
