Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama co‑chaired the Commonwealth Ministerial Meeting of Small Island States in London with the United Kingdom.
While delivering his address Bainimarama highlighted to the representatives of the 31 Small States of the need to work collectively to tackle climate change.
He says these 31 States all face risk, uncertainty and further hardship but if they work together, share knowledge and strengthen their relations within the Commonwealth family, the Countries give themselves a much better chance of emerging stronger and more resilient.
Bainimarama says there is a need for very high levels of cooperation to survive and prosper adding that for small states, in a global order that increasingly favors a few mighty nations, institutions like the Commonwealth give Small States a voice and gives them strength.
He also thanked the British Government who announced earlier in the day for an additional contribution of 1.2million pounds to the Pacific Regional Nationally Determined Contributions Hub.
Bainimarama highlighted that this is a facility to help Pacific Island countries implement and enhance their Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement and it is of vital importance to all in the Pacific.
