The Fiji Men’s Basketball team went down to the wire to put away New Caledonia 68-66 in their third pool game at the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands.
They have also booked their spot in the quarter finals tomorrow.
Tyron Mclennan says it was a really hard fought game and they had to dig deep to get the win.
Mclennan says there was great energy from everyone on the team even though some shots were poorly executed but the boys stayed the course and played hard.
The two teams were tied 34-all at half time.
After the third quarter, New Caledonia had a slight lead of just 1 point at 52-51.
There was a lot of drama in the last quarter as the two teams put everything on the line with a place in the quarter finals at stake.
It eventually came down to the dying seconds of the game before Fiji could eventually raise their hands in victory after continuous fouls by New Caledonia.
Fiji had won their first game against Tahiti 70-45, then beat Tonga 81-67 yesterday in their second match.
Fiji now await the results from the other pool games to see who they will play in the quarter final.
The quarter finals kick off at 3.30pm tomorrow.
