The Vodafone Fiji 7s team and South Africa are the first two teams to earn their spot in the Olympics joining host Brazil next year.
New Zealand can join them if they reach the Cup semi-finals while the final spot will go down to the England Sevens next week with Australia and England going neck and neck in the World Sevens Series standings.
The national sevens side thumped Wales 40‑17 in their first pool match before thrashing Portugal 40‑12 in their second game.
The emotional coach Ben Ryan says that the players hard work has been paid off.
Ryan adds that they are not mind if they face South Africa or New Zealand in the quarter finals tonight and believes that they can still finish ahead of South Africa after the series.
He says that the players will not lose focus after earning their Olympic spot.
Ryan is expecting their last game against tournament host Scotland to be tough.
Meanwhile looking at the highlights of their game against Portugal, Lanky forward Semi Kunatani scored two tries while Jerry Tuwai, Savenaca Rawaca, Vatemo Ravouvou and debutant Kitione Taliga scored a try each.
Fiji was leading 21 ‑ 7 at half time.
They will face Scotland at 6.21am.
Fiji will have to win the Scotland 7s and finish ahead of South Africa in the England 7s next weekend if they are to claim the series title.
The cup quarter finals will start at 10.28pm today, the cup semifinals will be at 1.58am tomorrow while the cup final will be held at 5.20am tomorrow.
They are likely to face South Africa in the Cup quarter finals.
