Fiji has been granted the exemption of Visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passport holders to enter India for up to 90 days after the signing of an Understanding between the two countries.
While speaking at a joint India and Fiji press conference on the bilateral meeting, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says the MOU represents a milestone achievement in building stronger connectivity for the people of both nations.
He says it will bolster economic opportunities in trade, tourism, business and investment.
The Cabinet endorsed the Agreement that was signed with the Government of India on the reciprocal visa exemptions for diplomatic and official passport holders.
Rabuka says on behalf of the Government of Fiji, he thanks the Government of India for the realisation of this important cooperation.
He says he is confident they will witness many more such initiatives unfold through deepened cooperation.
The Prime Minister also says together India and Fiji have built a robust multifaceted partnership which covers cooperation in all major areas of nation building including agriculture, education, health, climate change and the development of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises with a special focus on training, capacity building and capability development.
He further says India had stood by Fiji in times of great need and they have worked shoulder to shoulder to overcome the challenges posed by the climate crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rabuka also says they are forever grateful to the Government and the people of India for supporting Fiji through the provisions of lifesaving vaccines, and humanitarian assistance, among other initiatives in their collective efforts to build back better from the global challenges.
The Prime Minister adds Fiji also appreciates India’s commitment towards the development of the Pacific region through the collective priorities enshrined in the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.
He also congratulated India on its successful candidature for the G20 Presidency.
