Fiji and China’s bilateral relationship is not just in defense and naval comrade but it is through multi-faceted initiatives in trade, infrastructure, development, cultural exchanges and educational partnerships that we have crafted a relationship that transcends the ordinary.
This was highlighted by the Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration Pio Tikoduadua while officiating at a deck reception on the Chinese PLA Navy Ship, the Qi Jiguang.
He says the current of the Pacific may have brought this magnificent ship to our shores but it is our shared values, dreams and mutual respect that anchors here today.
Tikoduadua also acknowledged the leadership of Ambassador Zhou Jian, where under his guidance, the relationship between Fiji and China has flourished, reaching unprecedented heights.
The Minister adds Fiji and China, though separated by vast oceans, have found unity in mutual goals.
Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Zhou Jian says the ships visit is about friendship and more engagements leads to more friendship.
He says mutual understanding and friendship is the solid foundation for harmonious international relations.
Jian says since arriving in Suva, the ship has organise a number of events, received the RFMF, Government personnel and students, visits from local schools and enterprises and held various cultural and sports exchange activities.
Attending the reception was the former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, Minister for i-Taukei Affairs Ifereimi Vasu, Minister for Works Ro Filipe Tuisawau, Minister for Sugar Charan Jeath Singh, Members of Parliament, government delegates, diplomatic core, RFMF, Fiji Navy, representatives of Chinese enterprise, Chinese institutions and members of the Chinese community in Fiji.
