The private sector sees the strength and stability of the nation’s economy, and is making it clear that Fiji is an opportune place for long‑term business prospects.
These are the words of the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama who spoke at the official ground breaking ceremony of the Labasa Damodar City Complex.
The Prime Minister says over the past few years, Fiji has seen the private sector changing the face of our country as we know it.
Speaking about the Damodar City Labasa project, Bainimarama says for years his government has worked to bring the North into the fold of Fiji’s growing economic prosperity.
He adds that in doing so, they have laid the foundation for Vanua Levu to become every bit as developed, and attractive a place to earn an education, start a career, and raise a family, as Viti Levu.
Bainimarama says government has rebuilt the nation’s reputation, which was severely damaged by the instability and irresponsible decision‑making of past governments.
Meanwhile the Prime Minister says Damodar City Labasa plans to have even more features than its counterpart in Suva, covering over double the amount of land around 8 acres in total, compared to Suva’s 3.5 acre grounds and encompassing a 4‑star hotel, high‑tech cinemas with a premier event lounge, a department store, and one of the largest supermarkets in all of Fiji.
He adds that undoubtedly both immediate and long‑term job opportunities will come as a result of this development, providing a new source of income for local workers.
The total investment cost for the Labasa Damodar City Complex is $40 million dollars and is expected to be completed in the next 2 years.
