The Fiji Women’s Basketball side has maintained its unbeaten run in the 2023 Pacific Games Basketball competition after defeating Guam 55-40 in their second pool match.
Fiji led 14-10 in the first quarter, 23-19 in the second quarter and 41-38 in the third quarter.
Coach Earl Hughes says this game is a level up from their win against the Solomon Islands in the first game.
Hughes says they did not execute well in the first quarter which gave Guam the chance to stay within reaching distance.
He says they pulled away in the last quarter of the game and it showed that all of the base work they have been doing over the last few months came through.
Forward Letava Kenny says the win was a very good learning experience for most of the players as they have a lot of young players in the squad.
The Fiji Women’s Basketball side is in second place in Pool A behind leaders Samoa who they will play in their last pool match at 10am today.
Meanwhile, the Men’s Basketball team is in first place in pool B and will take on Tonga in their second pool match at 7 tonight.
