The Fijian Elections Office will be conducting the elections for Fiji Teachers Union this Friday and Saturday.
Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says the last FTU election was held in April 2019 where only 500 out of 4,556 registered voters had turned out to vote.
He says for this reason, the elections will be held over a 2 day period this year.
Saneem says the FTU is one of the largest unions in the country and it is important that the Union urge their subscription paying members to vote.
He says the Office will be opening 22 polling venues around the country for 4,917 union members.
He adds for this election, he will be a presiding officer at a polling venue in Nadi.
Saneem says maritime voters will be able to vote through postal voting.
The Supervisor says the union members will be voting for 6 positions while 2 positions are not being contested.
These positions include President, Vice President, General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary, National Executive Member positions and Publicity Officers position.
He has also highlighted that from this union election and onwards, all costs incurred by the Fijian Elections Office will be reimbursed by the unions.
