In the spirit of the festive season, the Fiji Sugarcane Growers Fund has launched a special loan package, the Termite Impact Home Loan for replacement or repair of structures damaged through termite infestation.
While speaking at the launch, Termite Taskforce Co-Chair and Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran says this initiative will help farmers access much-needed funds for repair, and urges all to keep baiting their homes each year.
The Fiji Sugarcane Growers Fund say the loan comes with an interest of 2.99 percent for 12 months and then 4.5 percent.
They say loans can range from $1,000 to $50,000 depending on the cane production and lease term.
Kiran says they are working on further options to help mitigate and control the spread of termites but protection of homes are the owners' responsibility, and they hope that people will be very cautious.
She has also highlighted that they have exhausted the cash subsidy allocation in budget and encourage more financial products be made available through financial institutions.
Farmers who wish to access this loan will have to report to Biosecurity Authority of Fiji and get their confirmation certificate.
Meanwhile, Kiran confirmed that 775 families have been provided with subsidies worth $3.8 million.
