The Fiji Sugar Corporation will make the 4th cane payment before the crushing season starts.

This is confirmed by FSC Chief Operating Officer, Navin Chandra.

Chandra says that they understand that the cane growers need the fund earlier to prepare for the harvesting season next month and FSC is doing its best to make the announcement on the 4th cane payment soon.

He made this clear after the National Farmers Union claimed that the farmers do not have the funds to prepare for harvesting since there is a delay in the 4th cane payment.

Union President, Surendra Lal claims that FSC does not have money for payment therefore farmers are getting frustrated.

Chandra stresses that the Master Award clearly stipulates that the 4th cane payment should be done after 30th April, 2017.

He highlights that they also have to follow the right procedures and their accountants are currently verifying the payments.

Meanwhile the harvesting season starts on the 1st of next month in Labasa.
