The swamp test of the boat conducted at the Fiji Ships and Heavy Industries Limited

Due to continuous loss of lives at sea, Fiji Ships and Heavy Industries Limited has re-commenced boat building to ensure that Fijians are provided boats that attain the required safety standard.

Fiji Ships and Heavy Industries Ltd’s Operation Manager Lopeti Radravu says that the company is in full compliance with the safety of the public, therefore, they will only sell their boats to buyers who permit them to register their boat with the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji.

Radravu says that many boat builders in the country are not following the required standard in building boats.

This standard includes the hull having a 12 layers thickness of roving mat and a visible orange coating that is visible from 30,000ft away.

During a swamp test carried out by the company on a newly made boat, it was evident that the boat remains 500-100mm below the water line which is also part of the boat building law in Fiji.

Fiji Ships and Heavy Industries Ltd boat prices ranging from $9,600.00 and this includes Life Saving apparatus as per requirement by the MSSAF as well as Fire FIR Apparatus.
