The Fiji Roads Authority says they are now trying to fit some curb blocks to prevent people from driving onto footpaths that are not raised.
General Manager Network Operations and Maintenance Aram Goes says these footpaths were constructed that way to avoid expensive design costs.
Fijivillage had raised the issue about the footpath along Beaumont road in Narere as people using the footpath daily were concerned about their safety.
Goes has acknowledged that it is a safety concern therefore they will implement the new designs going forward.
When asked if such footpaths will be raised to avoid accidents, Goes says it would be too expensive.
He says they are trying to fit some curb blocks to prevent people from driving onto the footpath.
Goes says it will be something similar to those placed in car parks to prevent a car from going onto to the other parking bay.
The Fiji Roads Authority has been allocated 9.5 million dollars to construct new footpaths around the country in 2017/2018.
