Fiji Police Credit Union committee members are under investigation for the alleged theft of about $450,000 and abuse of office.
This has been confirmed by the Acting Assistant Commissioner of Crime, Mesake Waqa who says the files are with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
While responding to questions by fijivillage News, ACP Waqa says he cannot disclose when the alleged theft occurred as this is part of the investigation.
He says the board which is headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Sakeo Raikaci were in charge of the Union.
ACP Waqa also says that he will not be able to reveal further details regarding the abuse of office matter which is against senior members of the Fiji Police Force.
While speaking during the Special General Meeting of the Union at the Fiji Police Academy this morning, DPC Raikaci says the documents needed for the audit, which is pending from 2013 as it was never done by the previous board, has not been done as the documents are with the CID for investigations.
While responding to comments by a police officer that the issue of audit reports should not be an excuse why they have not held an Annual General Meeting since 2017, DPC Raikaci says it was a difficult time for them where he was directed to remove some of the board members without having an AGM.
He says he could not do that as it was unconstitutional.
He says there were no audit reports when they took over the board in 2012 but audits were done until 2013, however, they are unqualified.
DPC Raikaci says the audit will take 6 months and $78,000 for the software to complete however, the documents are with the CID.
While responding to questions by police officers on when they will have the Annual General Meeting as they have not had one since 2014, DPC Raikaci assured the members that an AGM will be held even if there are no annual reports.
ACP Waqa says the documents were seized through the authority of a warrant and they are following due process before releasing it.
Meanwhile, the Union has over 2,000 members.
