The Fiji Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Services is now working with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to restore the mammogram machine at the CWM Hospital Oncology Unit.
The Mammogram machine which is used to detect cancer cells in the breast, has not been in operation for the past four months.
CWM General and Paediatric Surgeon Dr Josese Turagava in his presentation at the launch of the CWM Hospital Oncology Unit Pinktober Campaign last month highlighted that the Mammogram machine along with the Microtome machine have been inoperable for some time now.
The Health Ministry also confirmed that it is taking prompt action to restore the mammogram services and as a way forward, the Fiji Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Services is trying to secure repair parts to mend the mammogram machine.
The Ministry adds that work is in progress to liaise with the suppliers to arrange and get the repair parts which are only available abroad.
The Ministry is yet to comment on the plans in place for the Microtome machine that has also been inoperable for some time.
The Microtome machine is used to slice tissues for biopsies.
