The Fiji Pearls are stepping up their preparations for the upcoming 17th Pacific Games that will kick off next month in the Solomon Islands.
After the selection of the final 12-member squad, the team had their first training session at the National Netball Centre last week.
A 24-member extended squad was selected after the 2023 Digicel Punjas National Championship and was then split into two teams to compete in the FijiAus Quad Series, where the selectors were able to identify the final twelve players for the Pacific Games.
Head Coach Unaisi Rokoura says she has a lot of confidence in the team’s selection, highlighting the significance of having a blend of experienced players and emerging talents.
Rokoura says the mixture of senior players and the young talents is crucial for the team.
She adds having this blend brings a different style of play, maturity on the court, and a sense of control to the team’s game plan.
Rokoura says they have got a few weeks to prepare thoroughly before they leave for the Pacific Games and additionally, they will engage in a team bonding activity.
She says the team culture, bonding, revisiting the team values, and their goals for the Pacific Games are all essential aspects of their preparation.
The Pacific Games will be held from November 19th to December 2nd in Honiara.
