The Fiji Airways Fiji Men’s 7s side has finished in 3rd place in the HSBC Cape Town 7s after thrashing Spain 47-10 in the 3rd place playoff this morning to scoop the bronze medal.
Despite a disappointing semi final exit following a close 19-17 loss to France, Fiji regrouped and put on a show to redeem themselves in the tournament.
Spain started the game strongly with an unconverted try to Jeremy Trevithick in the 3rd minute.
Fiji replied 1 minute later and scored three converted tries through Joji Nasova, Filipe Sauturaga and Captain Jeremaia Matana to give them a comfortable 21-5 lead before Trevithick scored his second try for Spain just before halftime to trail 21-10.
Fiji put on the accelerator in the second half and scored 4 more tries through George Bose, Terio Veilawa, Kavekini Tanivanuakula and Viwa Naduvalo, followed by 3 conversions for the win.
Meanwhile, South Africa has been crowned the Cape Town 7s Men’s champion after beating France 26-14 in the Cup Final this morning.
The NZ Blackferns were crowned the Cape Town 7s Women’s champion after beating the USA 26-12 in the Cup Final this morning.
France edged Australia 17-14 in the Women’s 3rd place playoff.
