Fiji Men’s 7s extends losing streak to 17 tournaments after 22-7 semi final loss to Australia

The Fiji Airways Fiji Men’s 7s side has extended their HSBC World 7s Series losing streak to 17 tournaments straight after losing to Australia 22-7 in their Perth 7s semi final clash this afternoon.

Australia drew first blood in the 5th minute scoring a converted try underneath the crossbar before Fiji replied with a converted try as well to captain Joseva Talacolo to level the score at 7-all heading into the break.

Australia started the second half well with an unconverted try to Nathan Lawson in the corner to regain the lead.

Mistakes and errors proved too costly for Fiji as Australia scored a further 10 points in the final 2 minutes of the match through a penalty goal kick from Maurice Longbottom and a converted try to Henry Palmer.

In another semi final, table leaders Argentina showed their class outclassing the USA winning 24-5 this afternoon. Australia will take on Argentina in the Men’s Cup final at 9.53 tonight. Fiji will take on Ireland at 8.40 tonight in the 3rd place playoff.

Meanwhile, the Fijiana 7s side will take on Canada at 6.15pm today in the 7th place play-off. Stay with us for updates.
