The Digicel Fiji Kulas under 16 side has qualified for the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship 2023 final after a dramatic semi final shootout victory over hosts Tahiti yesterday.
Both teams were locked at 2-all after extra time.
Fiji scored their first goal through a penalty from captain Elesi Tabunase in the 34th minute before Tahiti equalised 6 minutes later through Turere Tupahuruhuru.
The game went into halftime with both teams locked at 1-all.
Seruwaia Laulaba regained the lead for Fiji in the 56th minute before the hosts pulled one back in the 86th minute to lock the score at 2-all.
A great save by Fiji’s goalkeeper Rosalain Saraphina stopping Tahiti’s Maerehia Dehors’ spot-kick was enough to send Fiji to the final.
In another under 16 semi final, NZ thrashed Tonga 7-0 yesterday.
Fiji will play NZ at 5pm tomorrow.
