The Fiji Judiciary has today signed a contract with the McGirr Technologies of Australia for the installation of e-filing software system to increase its efficiency, save time and reduce cost.
This project is being supported by the United Nations Development Programme Pacific Office and it is funded by European Union through the Fiji Access to Justice Project.
While speaking at the signing of the contract, Acting Chief Justice, Kamal Kumar says a fair, just and efficient legal system instills confidence in investors who choose to invest in Fiji which is why there is a need to be in line with the technological development to provide better services to the people.
Kumar says he understands that the installation process will cause difficulty to some legal practitioners and people but we must be ready to accept the change for the betterment.
He says the e-filing system will contribute to the government’s plan and policies to reduce carbon emissions and save us from the drastic effects of climate change.
EU Ambassador to Fiji, Sujiro Seam says over the five years they have spent $18.5 million towards Fiji Access to Justice Project and it was worth it.
Seam says the number of cases has also increased due to COVID-19 and the restrictions imposed due to that and this stronger system will help save time.
He says this will also protect human rights.
