The Fiji Airways Drua have sent out a big statement to the rest of the teams in the Australian National Rugby Championship competition after thrashing defending champion, Perth Spirit 41‑5 at the ANZ Stadium last night.

The Drua ran away with six tries as they stopped the Spirit a number of times close to their try line.

Fans did not disappoint as they came out in numbers to support the Drua.

Drua’s Frank Lomani was first to put points on the board crossing over the tryline in the 20th minute after a strong scrum inside Spirit’s 22.

The second try was set by Eroni Vasiteri who ran through two defenders and offloaded a perfect pass to Apisalome Waqatabu who crossed the tryline.

Peni Raidre managed to score another spectacular try in the 27th minute of play.

This eventuated from a loose play in Drua’s territory when Lomani kicked the ball and chased for about 50m before perfectly securing and releasing the ball to Raidre.

The Drua kept pressuring the Spirit defense and punished the Australians with another try in the 43rd minute through captain, John Stewart.

Fiji Drua led 24‑0 at halftime.

The Drua’s defence has been the key in this game seeing them communicating well and making crucial tackles.

Coach, Senirusi Seruvakula says they are humble with the win as they have been working hard on their getting their defensive structure right.

Drua’s next game is against the Canberra Vikings at 9.30pm next Friday in Canberra.

The Fiji Drua now leads the NRC points table with 15 points.

Meanwhile, in another match yesterday, NSW Country beat Canberra Vikings 25-24.
