It was all smiles and laughter for the residents of the Golden Age home who were visited by Divisional Planning Officer West, Jone Bacawa and a delegation of civil servants to celebrate Fiji Day at the Golden Age Home in Lautoka.
As the country marks its 48th year of independence, the home's 58 residents were treated to gifts and a morning tea reception as gratitude for their contribution to Fiji's economy and development.
Bacawa highlighted that the theme for the Fiji Day celebrations is "Progressing together leaving no Fijian behind" and this resonates well with Government's intention of ensuring that all Fijians are equally involved and benefitting in the development of the nation.
He adds that Government's commitment to the Fijian people with initiatives to ensure that development and assistance accommodates each individual across the community.
Bacawa says that these include agricultural assistance through the Fiji Development Bank, small and medium enterprises and housing assistance for first‑time home buyers.
Various Governmental Heads of Departments and the Roko Tui Ba, Jese Volau, handed out presents and spent time with residents, with some rising to their feet to dance for the festive occasion.
