The Fiji Corrections Service has terminated one Corrections Officer and suspended five others in relation to the brutal assault of a remand prisoner.
The assault occurred in the Suva Remand Centre in Korovou on the 10th of this month.
Fiji Corrections Service Commissioner Commander Francis Kean says the remand prisoner, Sefanaia Turagadamudamu was attended to by their Senior Medical Officer and has been referred to the CWM Hospital for further medical examination.
Commander Kean says they have concluded their internal investigations which resulted in the termination and suspensions, pending the outcome of the Police investigation.
He says the incident was reported at the Totogo Police Station last Friday and Police are currently investigating the incident.
Kean says the Fiji Corrections Service has zero tolerance on the assault of prisoners and strongly condemns the action of a few rogue personnel who have tarnished the good work currently being done by majority of the officers.
