The Fiji Corrections Service has made a savings of $600,000 from the $2.7 million that was allocated to them to buy specialized vehicles this year.
Corrections Commissioner, Colonel Ifereimi Vasu said the savings is with the Finance Ministry.
He said they have purchased 27 vehicles this year which includes an excavator and a tractor.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Corrections Service yesterday unveiled six new escort vehicles and two ambulances that it bought from Vision Motors.
Colonel Vasu says these vehicles are meeting the United Nations minimum standard requirement on how inmates should be transported.
An escort vehicle cost $88,000 while an ambulance is worth $125,000.
