The Fiji National University and Fiji Corrections Service have entered into a partnership to train and develop the staff and inmates of the Corrections Service.
Speaking during the MOU signing at FNU Nasinu, Acting Corrections Commissioner Salote Panapasa says this effort is to enhance organizational capacity especially in the field of human resource.
She says previously staff part of the in-house training at FCS were provided with certificates that included the logo of FCS, which the employers were reluctant to accept.
Panapasa say the inclusion of the FNU logo would allow FCS staff to also be recognized and get other jobs.
Vice Chancellor of FNU, Unaisi Nabobo-Baba says this partnership signifies a commitment to excellence, innovation, and dedication to the betterment of our community.
She says the programmes outlined within this MOU are not just plans on paper, they are pathways to transformation and opportunity.
Nabobo-Baba says the immediate offerings include trade tests at various levels, aptitude test services for recruitment purposes, and excessive development courses tailored to elevate the skills and knowledge of Corrections Officers.
She says their commitment extends beyond the prison walls with skills and development training for inmates, focusing on the need and personal interest.
Nabobo-Baba emphasizes the importance of education in prisons, suggesting that teaching TVET programs can educate, empower, and equip inmates to positively contribute to society post-release.
